Answer

Road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users.

I can advise that my Department has already introduced a number of measures to improve road safety at this location, and officials are developing a preliminary design to change the layout of this junction.

The development of this scheme will involve detailed design, accommodation works, land acquisition, funding and a separate procurement process and is being consider in conjunction with the adjacent junctions of Crossans and Ballymacbrennan crossroads.

Officials are also considering additional traffic management measures that could be introduced to improve road safety in the short term. This includes enhanced signing, replacement of existing and new area of high friction surfacing on the approach to the junction.
