Answer
My Department has been operating in a difficult financial environment for a number of years due to underfunding and austerity by the British Government and this has had a significant impact on its ability to deliver essential services such as road maintenance.
There are many roads that would undoubtedly benefit from investment, including those in Moira Village, however, due to a limited budget, resurfacing work must be taken forward through the prioritisation of those deemed most in need of intervention.
Officials are currently developing the 2025/26 resurfacing programme, and this will be provided in the Department’s Annual Report to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
In the interim, my officials will continue to undertake regular inspections in Moira and repair defects in accordance with my Department’s current maintenance policy.
