Answer
Officials in my department have advised that they have been working with Translink to address a number of capacity concerns at Moira Station and as such a section of footway from the Motorway Bridge to Moira Station that was previously widened to accommodate commuters and pedestrians has recently been extended by approximately 110m from the motorway bridge towards Moira.
Street lighting is currently situated at either side of the train station, in the direction of Glenavy as far as the Chestnut Hill Road junction and in the direction of Moira as far as the bridge near Ballycanal Holiday homes. Locations beyond these, which include Station Road, are rural in nature and do not meet the current minimum criteria for the provision of street lighting. My Department’s street lighting policy helps to ensure lighting is provided where it is most needed as well as managing future maintenance and energy costs and the environmental impacts of light pollution.
