Answer
Road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users. We are acutely aware that children and young people are amongst the most vulnerable groups using our roads, particularly around schools.
Following a review of the area around Downshire Primary School, my Department has identified and substantially progressed a number of road safety improvements. Existing road markings have been refreshed, and advance school warning signage has been renewed. While the Safer Routes to School flashing signs on the three approaches to the school are currently faulty, repair works have been programmed and will be completed as soon as possible.
