Answer

I welcome the opening of the new Moira Park & Ride facility, which provides additional parking capacity for rail users and should help reduce pressure on parking in the surrounding area.

Translink has advised that it has provided all required signage for the facility. There are currently no plans to erect additional signage on Station Road to encourage use of the Park & Ride facility.

Station Road has been affected by parking associated with the railway station for many years and the Department has carried out a number of measures including the widening of the footway to cater for parking and pedestrian movements.

It is appreciated that parking habits should change following the opening of the new Park & Ride facility, however drivers may need some time to adjust to the new arrangements and for parking patterns to settle.

As such, the parking along Station Road will be kept under review.

Should a motorist park a vehicle in such a manner that causes obstruction of a footway or carriageway, they are committing an offence that can only be enforced by the PSNI, not parking attendants. If anyone should witness parking of this nature in future, I encourage them to contact the PSNI directly using their non-emergency number, 101.
