Answer

Patients may be removed from a waiting list for a number of legitimate reasons, including:

The scan is no longer clinically required following review;

The patient has been referred to an alternative diagnostic pathway;

The patient repeatedly does not attend scheduled appointments (in line with Trust DNA policies);

The patient has requested removal from the list;

The patient is no longer contactable despite reasonable efforts; and,

The request for imaging is a duplicate request i.e. similar request in situ, or patient has had imaging performed elsewhere.

In all cases, where requests are cancelled, the referrer is informed of the removal reason. Where clinically appropriate, there are opportunities to re-refer the patient to the service. If an individual believes they have been removed from a waiting list without appropriate communication or justification, they are encouraged to contact their local Trust to seek clarification.
