Answer

Road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users.

My Department uses road traffic collision data provided by the PSNI to undertake detailed analysis, including identifying collision trends and locations with a higher frequency and severity of collisions. This evidence base helps my officials to determine where road engineering safety measures are likely to have the greatest impact, supporting the prioritisation and development of safety related interventions across the road network.

The most recent assessment for traffic calming was undertaken in January 2023. As this assessment is more than 3 years old, I have asked officials to undertake a fresh assessment and advise you of the outcome.

Officials are currently considering the 2026/27 programme of works, details of which will be included in my Department’s 2026/27 annual report to Council. Programmes cannot be finalised until such times as budgets are confirmed.

In the meantime, officials will continue to undertake regular inspections and repair defects in accordance with the Department’s Limited Service policy.
