Answer

We recognise the immense economic, historical and reconciliation potential of the site and are committed to working with the Board to maximise that potential for the benefit of all.

We recognise the benefit an improved road connection between the MLK site and the M1 motorway would bring, not least for the annual Balmoral Show. Other events at the Eikon Centre and the wider site would also benefit, and it would potentially improve access across the surrounding area. Of course, an improved road connection is also of critical importance to any future development that may take place on the site.

The Investment Strategy is currently being finalised along with the accompanying Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP), which sets out priorities for infrastructure investment over the next 10 years. The potential for a link road will be considered as part of discussions on these issues.

Any proposals for a road connection will be subject to the normal planning and internal governance approvals and the allocation of funding.
