Answer
There are many glucose monitoring systems available from various companies to support people living with diabetes. I am aware of the significant benefits these devices can provide to people living with diabetes. The most appropriate system for each individual is the responsibility of the Health and Social Care Trust and their clinicians to determine, in consultation with the patient and/or the patient’s carer.
There is an application and assessment process for the inclusion of devices onto the NI Drug Tariff list - my Department cannot add devices to the NI Drug Tariff list. It is the manufacturers of Continuous Glucose Monitors who have to complete this process and consequently, provide access. The Business Services Organisation manage this function within Health and Social Care on behalf of my Department.
